How to Turn a 404 Page into a Money-Squeezing Affiliate Marketing Opportunity

Have you ever thought you could use a 404 page to promote your affiliate offers and make sales?

Interesting right?

Actually, this is a great way to promote affiliate offers.

Let’s understand how you can easily do this and one real-life example:

What is a 404 Page?

A 404 is a status code that says that the server’s page does not exist. It often happens due to 2 things:

  • Either the URL was typed incorrectly in the browser
  • Or the actual URL was deleted, and the webmaster forgot to 301 redirect

It looks something like this.

What if you could show a custom 404 page to your users where you have all the affiliate offers instead of this generic page?

Yes, you can do this.

Turning a 404 Page into a Money-Squeezing Opportunity

A 404 page on your website is not a good experience for your visitors.

But you can turn any 404 page into an opportunity to squeeze some money.

Here’s how:

Create a dedicated section of affiliate offers and embed them into a 404 page.

You can use any page builder or plugins like Affiliate Booster or GetLasso to create beautiful product blocks.

I would recommend going with Affiliate Booster (since it is easy to use & very affordable as well).

Currently on a lifetime deal.

Once you are done with it, then just use it as your custom 404 page.

When users mistype your URL, they will be taken to this custom 404 page with affiliate offers.

This custom 404 page can look similar to your resource or recommended tools page.

As explained here in this Twitter thread.

Here’s our custom 404 page built with Affiliate Booster & the 404 plugin mentioned below.

Try any gibberish URL, and you will be shown this custom 404 page with affiliate offers.

How WordPress users can use the custom 404-page strategy:

You can refer to this resource if you want to do it without a plugin.

It involves a little bit of coding (but the code has been shared & you just need to copy-paste it)

You can refer to this tutorial if you want to do it with the plugin.

Now you must be wondering, does it work?

Well, you need to experiment yourselves and see. Anytime, it’s a one-time effort.

Example of a 404-page for Affiliate Marketing

I came across this amazing website called Mycodelesswebsite.

You will be taken to a custom 404 page if you try to mistype any URL.

Example: Just go to this page & check

He has built a custom website builder scanner. Now anytime people plug in and check any website, they are shown what type of website builder it uses or any technology.

For this example: I tried searching ulah.es, & it showed me that they use Elementor & WP Rocket.

Notice that it is an affiliate link.

He made $450 in affiliate revenue in the last 30 days. How cool is that?
